What is a Recovery Community Organization?

A Recovery Community Organization (RCO) is simply a place where people come together to support one another through life’s challenges—especially those related to addiction, mental health, and healing.

It’s not a treatment center or a clinic. Instead, it’s a community space built by people who’ve been through tough times themselves, along with families, friends, and neighbors who care.

RCOs offer things like:

Peer support (talking with others who understand)
Help connecting to local resources
Community events and gatherings
A safe place to share, learn, and grow

At its heart, an RCO is about people helping people and making sure no one feels alone.

What is the “Building Hope Together” Symposium?

The Building Hope Together Symposium is a community gathering where we come together to talk, listen, and imagine what’s possible for Clay County.

This event is not a lecture—it’s a conversation.

It’s a chance for anyone in the community to:

Learn what a Recovery Community Organization could look like here
Share their ideas, experiences, and hopes
Hear from others who care about making Clay County stronger

How Clay County would benefit.

Clay County already has many caring organizations and services. But people still share that it can be hard to know where to go, who to talk to, or how to find support that feels welcoming.

Creating an RCO here could help:

Bring people and resources together in one place
Make it easier to find support and feel connected
Create a judgment‑free space where everyone belongs
Lift up real voices and real experiences from our community
Build stronger relationships across Clay County

This is about strengthening what we already have and making sure everyone—no matter where they are in their journey—has a place to turn.

What we hope to do together.

This is just the beginning. At this event, we hope to:

Listen to what our community needs
Connect people, families, and local organizations
Plant the seeds for something new in Clay County
Explore whether and how we build an RCO—together
