Peer Recovery Coach

Full Time Contract Position

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Peer Support Recovery Coach brings his or her own lived experience, combined with training and supervision, to help participants seek or maintain long term recovery from substance use.

The Peer Support Recovery Coach

  • serves as a mentor and provides support for individuals with substance use disorder.

  • works to promote hope and set goals using a person-centered recovery plan.

  • work to build a foundation of trust with participants that fosters hope, resilience, and recovery skills. 

  • provide linkage to treatment services when necessary.

  • is a non-clinical position and does not include treatment, assessments, or clinical evaluations of participants.

  • does not diagnose or treat addiction or mental health disorders.

  • assists participants by using various recovery tools, i.e., WRAP, to help participants learn about self-care and wellness in recovery and create a recovery and relapse prevention plan.

  • meets regularly with participants

  • works with participants to help them identify their strengths

  • supports participants in using their strengths to communicate goals and needs to other members of the participant’s recovery team.

  • assists participants in working with the participant’s case manager, counselor, and or physician. 

  • helps the participant determine what steps are needed to achieve personal goals and long-term recovery through individual and or support group settings.

  • supports participants in identifying and developing the recovery goals by providing skill building, based on personal strength, supports and resources, and sharing lived experience to help participants achieve those goals.

  • is a role model for competency in recovery, self-care, resiliency, wellness strategies. and other methods to the participants as well as peers and other staff members.

  • share their personal recovery story to model the value of recovery and teach participants appropriate ways for self-advocacy and sustain long term recovery.

  • is responsible for accurately completing documentation and other paperwork within 48 hours of service delivery.  Documentation may be reviewed and or approved by a supervisor.  

  • required to attend weekly staffing meetings to review participant cases, discuss barriers, and celebrate accomplishments.  These meetings may be held in person, telephonically, or via video conference.  Additional staff meetings may require the attendance of the peer recovery coach.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED. 

  • Must be certified as a Peer Support Recovery Coach

  • Must poses a current and valid Florida driver's license; driving record will also be required upon hire

  • Must poses and maintain automobile insurance and Florida vehicle registration

  • Lived experience as a consumer of substance use and or mental health services

  • Must have a minimum of two years in active recovery with continual involvement in a recovery program

  • To be considered for employment, you will be required to undergo a criminal background check, employment/personal references check, and drug screening

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and other qualifications.

Job Type: Full-Time Equivalent, Independent Contractor

Pay: $31,200 Annual Contract

Schedule: Flexible

  • Driver's License (Required)

  • Recovery Peer Support Specialist Certification (Preferred)
