My Story

Heather was born in Pikeville, Kentucky but now calls North Carolina home. Heather has been working in substance abuse since 2017. Heather graduated Cum Laude at Shorter University while obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in 2017. Heather graduated with distinction from the University of the Cumberland’s, earning a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Clinical Counseling. Heather is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Education in Community Care and Counseling at Liberty University.  In 2018, Heather was inducted in to the Sigma Chi Iota International Honors Society and the American Counseling Association. Heather is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling Associate, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate, and is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy.

Heather has clinical experience in the treatment and diagnosis of co-occurring disorders, psychoeducation implementation, program and curriculum development, and advocacy. Heather currently sits on the Overdose Fatality Review Board, Strategic Opioid Advanced Response Team, Eastern North Carolina Rapid Response Team, Turning Adversity into Success for Children in Onslow, and is the Chairman for the Onslow County School System Substance Abuse Prevention Multidisciplinary Team.

Heather is very passionate about her work in substance abuse, and is an educator and an advocate for this population and her community.
